Layne Bowen, Fiddle, Vocal ~ Greg Snyder, Banjo ~ Kathi Carney, Bass ~ Mark Hogan, Mandolin, Vocal ~ Chris Carney, Guitar and Vocal

We are all into the older traditional bluegrass sounds of bands like the Stanley Brothers, the Louisiana Honeydrippers, very early Bill Monroe and all those transitional bands between pure old time music and bluegrass. We found that most of the newer bands that call themselves bluegrass aren't really very traditional. That's Ok with us but there are very few real bluegrass bands that are playing in this area (Sonoma County). I can think of only a few. So... we thought we'd like to hear and play and present this older bluegrass, hence the band.

  • Layne Bowen has been playing bluegrass and sundry other types of acoustic and electric music in the S.F. Bay Area for years with bands like "Under The Rader" and "Modern Hicks" as well as others to numerous to mention. We're lucky that he wants to play more bluegrass and he wants to do it with us!
  • Mark Hogan was a past president and is a current officer of the California Bluegrass Association and founding member of the great bluegrass band "Done Gone".
  • Kathi Carney started playing bass a few years ago and this is her first foray into the life of a bluegrass musician. (Poor girl).
  • Greg Snyder has been teaching banjo (and other non-bluegrass instruments which we won't mention) at Amazing Grace Music in San Anselmo, California for the past 25 years and more. He's steeped in the Earl Scruggs and Ralph Stanley style of playing so he really fits in with this band.
  • Chris Carney has been playing mostly old time fiddle for the past 25 years or so with bands like "The Acme String Ensemble" and "The Lonesome Holler String Band". But Bluegrass calls and here we are. We'll be making $10.00's of dollars in no time.

Anyway, it's a lot of fun and if you need some real trad. bluegrass come and see us.

Our recording opportunities have been sparse and so I've put up some samples from our gig at The Anderson Marsh Bluegrass Festival. Our past fiddle player was playing with us at that time and I've not been able to put up anything with our new fiddle player as of yet. It'll at least give you an idea.
